Balayage is a French word meaning "to sweep" or "to paint." A freehand hair highlighting and/or coloring technique that gives a diffused + blended root for a more natural "sun-kissed" look with no obvious growout lines.
"This technique can be ombre (gradiently lighter moving towards ends), dimensional (select pieces), or all over with minimized growout. It can even be used as a prelightened base for bright, vivid colors. Many of my color clients use balayage to extend out maintenance as well as creating a more dynamic and customized haircolor,"says D'Arcy.
